The UN Global Goals

In 2015, UN leaders committed to 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These goals, also known as the Global Goals, aim to create a sustainable future. The goals focus on eradicating hunger, poverty, and inequality, protecting the environment, and promoting peace. When you book hotels with Goodwings, a portion of our commission goes towards one of our charity partners. These partners each work towards achieving one or more of the Global Goals.

No poverty

The number of people living in extreme poverty has dropped by more than half between 1990 and 2015. Still, too many people are still suffering as a result of a lack of income and resources. The first goal focuses on ending all forms of poverty.

Zero Hunger

Millions of people still experience malnutrition and food insecurity. This goal aims to end hunger, achieve food security, and promote sustainable agriculture.

Good health and well-being

Global efforts have reduced child mortality and the incidence of infections like HIV/AIDS, but there is still a long way to go. Leaders have committed to reducing the prevalence of communicable diseases like HIV, malaria and tuberculosis. This goal also focuses on improving maternal and infant health.

Quality education

Goal 4 focuses on ensuring inclusive, quality education. It also promotes access to lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Gender equality

All over the world, women still face systemic discrimination and human rights violations. The agenda aims to protect women’s rights and improve their access to education and employment.

Clean water and sanitation

Many people still don’t have access to clean water and sanitation services. This is both a health and environmental issue. Leaders have committed to improving access to water and sanitation for everyone.

Affordable and clean energy

This goal focuses on ensuring everyone has access to affordable, reliable, sustainable energy. This includes harnessing energy sources in an environmentally-friendly and cost-effective way.

Decent work and economic growth

The agenda focuses on creating employment opportunities for all. In turn, this will promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

Industry, innovation and infrastructure

Goal 9 focuses on building quality infrastructure, promoting sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation.

Reduced inequalities

Income inequality is increasing. Presently, the richest 10 percent earn about 40 percent of the total global income while the poorest 10 percent only earn about 2 to 7 percent. The agenda aims to reduce inequality within and among countries.

Sustainable cities and communities

Leaders have committed to making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, and sustainable for all humans.

Responsible consumption and production

Goal 12 focuses on ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns. This includes providing products and services without negatively impacting humans or the environment.

Climate action

The Global Goals agenda prioritizes the environment. This goal calls on world leaders to limit the effects of climate change. This goal also aims to help vulnerable countries adapt to climate change quickly.

Life below water

Oceans are a vital source of food and an important part of the environment. Because it’s such a valuable resource, the agenda aims to protect and conserve the health of our oceans and seas.

Life on land

This goal focuses on promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems. This includes sustainably managing forests, combating desertification, and preventing land degradation and biodiversity loss.

Peace, justice and strong institutions

For the sake of maintaining stability and protecting human rights, the agenda prioritizes peace and justice. This goal focuses on promoting peaceful societies, providing access to justice for all, and building effective institutions.

Partnerships for the goals

The final goal aims to create and maintain global partnerships so that the Global Goals can be met by 2030. It does this by promoting international trade, cooperation, and communication amongst countries.
